Airtrucks

BEH - Special projects, Airtrucks

On-site Airtrucks can be used to supply quality breathing air to remote parts of a plant.

The Airtruck is a small, easily manoeuvred "on-site" trailer unit holding fixed cylinders (recharged from a central charging facility) or as an alternative, removable cylinders, usually of the BOC 'J' type which can be replaced when they are empty.

The unit has the benefit of using a large supply of assured quality air which has been compressed and filtered under controlled conditions. This avoids the problems associated with the mobile breathing air compressors of the need to test air quality regularly and every time the compressor is moved, and the necessity to have large reserves of air as a back-up in case of compressor failure.

The unit uses the standard control panel with 2 of the cylinders supplying the working section of the panel and the third cylinder being held in reserve for supplying the emergency section of the panel.

The large static cylinders used in the airtruck are normally pressurised to 275 bar. They each hold approximately 18,600 litres of breathing air, giving a total of approximately 15 man hours supply for working and a further 7 and a half hours as an emergency supply. If using replaceable 'J' cylinders these usually hold approximately 2 man hours supply per cylinder.

Hosereels are normally the Sabre RAL type which can hold up to 90 metres of hose. Alternative hosereels can be fitted if required. The unit can be turned within it's own length, and the hinged twoing bar can be fastened up to reduce overall length.
